Never-Ending Possibilities

New York is often synonymous with New York City, however, there is so much to see and do in this diverse state and NYC is only one part of the bigger picture. New York tourism can be divided up into a number of regions that each offer different highlights. There is so much to see and do in the state of New York; tourism destinations are just about everywhere.

In the western region of New York is the Greater Niagara region. This is where the world-renowned Niagara Falls can be viewed on the US side in addition to other natural wonders, a casino, sporting events and a booming art scene. Also in the west is Chautaqua-Allegheny, another region of New York. Tourism here centers on outdoor activities with lakes and dense forests forming the backdrop for all manner of explorations.

In the central part of New York, tourism destinations include the Finger Lakes and Central-Leatherstocking regions. Finger Lakes provides access to a number of wineries, amazing gorge views and a multitude of outdoor New York tourism opportunities. Central-Leatherstocking shines with unspoiled beauty as visitors appreciate Native American culture and underground caverns along with historic villages.

The northern area of the state includes the Thousand Islands-Seaway Region and the Adirondack Region. Sparkling waters and a simpler, more pleasant way of life are the key features of the Thousand Islands-Seaway Region. This New York tourism region features an abundance of Bed & Breakfasts and peaceful dining and shopping guaranteed to relax and calm. The mountains of the Adirondack’s mean that outdoor adventures are the most popular form of New York tourism in that region. White water rafting, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding and skiing in the winter months are among the many popular activities here.

The state capital, Saratoga, and the surrounding region, make for an excellent New York tourism destination. The area has a rich Dutch history reflected in the architecture and neighborhood feel of city.

Below the Saratoga region is the Catskills, another New York tourism area that features a dramatic landscape and a myriad of outdoor activities. In addition to all of the outdoor activities, the Catskills also offer the conveniences of great shopping and dining, ensuring that it is a region anyone can fall in love with. The region to the north of New York City is Hudson Valley. This is a historic region and home to many mansions, museums and art centers.

New York City is found at the southeastern tip of the state. Providing a dizzying array of sites and activities, this is the single biggest destination in New York tourism. From the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State Building to Broadway to the countless museums, there is no shortage of things to do. Combine with some of the best shopping in the world, the finest restaurants and renowned entertainment and nightlife, New York City earns its place as one of the world’s best cities.

Southeast of New York City is Long Island, a romantic and leisurely region with wineries and seaside towns. Easily accessible from NYC, Long Island offers a quick retreat for those looking to get away from it all.
